Lost Civilization is a story-driven adventure game where players explore a newly discovered continent, Pangea, to uncover the secrets of a lost civilization. As an archaeologist, you navigate through ancient ruins and treacherous environments, interacting with artifacts and triggering echoes of the past to piece together the city's history. The gameplay involves exploration, artifact hunting, and combat with enemies encountered in the city's flashbacks. The game's themes of growth and discovery are central to the player's journey, as they unravel the mysteries of the lost civilization and its tragic fate.
As the lead programmer and producer within the team, I was responsible for development of all systems and mechanics within the game as well as keeping the team on track with development. I developed the following systems, A flashback mechanic, a quest compass navigation system, a quest log, cutscene Intergration and all other mechanics of the game.
As my first major team project, Lost Civilization provided invaluable lessons and experiences. Through this project, I gained a deeper understanding of the game development process, from initial concept to final product. I also learnt a lot about project management and what it means to work within a team on a large-scale project. By the end of the project, I developed essential skills such as:
Level Design: Creating immersive and challenging environments within the ancient city.
Narrative Development: Weaving a compelling story through the use of the city's artifacts and flashbacks.
Gameplay Mechanics: Implementing engaging gameplay elements that balance exploration, puzzle-solving, and combat.
Optimisation: Ensuring smooth performance on various devices.
UI/UX Design: Creating intuitive and visually appealing user interfaces.
Programming: Simplicity of code and commenting code for collaboration
Project management: Organising and keeping a small team on track
Beyond technical skills, I also honed my project management and communication abilities. Working collaboratively with a team taught me the importance of effective communication, organization, and problem-solving. These skills will undoubtedly be valuable assets in future endeavours.
